Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of OttoSpot. They are written to be read, not to be impressive. If something here seems unfair, tell us.

OttoSpot is new software

OttoSpot is new. Features will change and things will occasionally break. We will fix them as fast as one small team can.

Export your data from Settings at any time if there is anything in your garage you would be upset to lose.

Identification is a best guess

OttoSpot tries to identify cars in detail, down to generation, facelift and trim. It will sometimes be wrong, and it is wrong more often at that level of detail than at the level of make and model.

Every identification is a suggestion, not a statement of fact. You can correct any of them.

Do not rely on an OttoSpot identification when buying, selling, insuring, or valuing a vehicle, or for any other decision that matters financially or legally.

Safety

Never use OttoSpot while driving. Do not photograph cars from behind the wheel, whether moving or stopped in traffic.

Pay attention to where you are. Do not trespass, block traffic, or put yourself in danger to get a spot.

Photographing other people's cars

A licence plate can identify a person, and in Canada and many other places it counts as personal information. That is why every photo goes through a blur step before it is saved, starting with a box over the plate, and saving a photo with nothing blurred needs your confirmation.

You are responsible for the photographs you take and for following the laws where you are. Some places restrict photography on private property or of people without consent.

Do not use OttoSpot to follow, harass, or build a record of any individual person or their movements.

Your account

You can use OttoSpot without an account. If you create one, keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.

Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.

Your content

Your photos and notes are yours. We claim no ownership of them.

You keep ownership of your photos. If you sign in, you are giving us permission to store the blurred photo and show it back to you on your own devices, and nothing more. We do not claim any other right over it: we will not publish it, share it, sell it, or use it to train anything.

If you make your profile public, you give us permission to show other signed-in users your handle, your name and your cards as described in the privacy policy, including any garage-card artwork you generated, for as long as your profile stays public. Your photos are never part of that. Turning your profile off withdraws the permission straight away.

Your handle, your name, a crew's name and description, and your reactions are visible to other people. You are responsible for them.

Acceptable use

Don't try to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, or use it to do anything unlawful.

Don't use automated tools to submit spots or create accounts in bulk.

There is a daily limit on identifications to keep costs sane. Working around it is not allowed.

Handles, names and crew names must not be offensive, hateful, sexual or harassing, and must not pretend to be another person, a brand or OttoSpot itself. Do not use follows, reactions or crew requests to harass anyone.

We may remove a name, a handle, a profile or a crew that breaks these rules, and suspend an account that keeps breaking them. Anyone can report something from inside the app, and can block another user at any time.

Ending your use

You can stop at any time and delete everything from Settings.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts other people or the service at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

No warranty

OttoSpot is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be available, accurate, or uninterrupted.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or lost profits arising from your use of OttoSpot.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited by agreement.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

Changes

If we change these terms we will update this page and the date at the top.
